Educated Youths in Tripura Embracing Agriculture as a Lucrative Career

Agartala: Tripura’s Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister, Ratan Lal Nath, has highlighted a growing trend in the state, where educated youths are increasingly turning to agriculture as a profitable and sustainable profession. Backed by state support and modern practices, many young individuals are now finding agriculture to be a lucrative career path.

Speaking at the Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan event in Phultali village, Minister Nath underscored the government’s commitment to empowering farmers across various sectors, including fisheries, poultry, floriculture, and horticulture. He noted that scientific farming, including free soil testing, is being promoted to improve yields and make agriculture a modern, income-generating career path.

The minister also emphasized the importance of timely delivery of seeds and resolving logistical problems during the cultivation season. In a symbolic gesture, Minister Nath pledged a power tiller for a local farmer, highlighting the government’s direct assistance to cultivators.

Drawing a heartfelt comparison, Minister Nath said, “Farmers and jawans (soldiers) never go on strike. One feeds the nation, the other defends it. They are above all of us. I urge every farmer, don’t leave your land unused. The government is here with full support.”

The Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan appears to be revitalizing rural livelihoods and redefining farming as an aspirational, dignified profession for Tripura’s educated youth. The government’s initiatives are aimed at supporting farmers and promoting sustainable agriculture practices in the state.
