Educators Refute Mendipathar College Appointment Irregularities Claims, Distance Themselves from Activist’s Complaint
Two educators, Cheanchi Marak and Sengatchi K. Marak, have vehemently denied any involvement in a complaint lodged by social activist Cherian Momin regarding alleged irregularities in faculty appointments at Mendipathar College under the People’s College Scheme. The duo clarified that their names were included in Momin’s memorandum to the Chief Minister of Meghalaya without their prior knowledge, consent, or endorsement, stressing that the complaint erroneously linked them to accusations of procedural discrepancies.
In a joint statement, the educators asserted, “We were appointed temporarily and as substitutes in accordance with the Governing Body’s decisions, and we were fully aware of the terms and nature of our roles.” They further added, “At no point did we raise objections or contest our appointments, as was wrongly suggested.” Describing the inclusion of their names as “a serious misrepresentation,” they unequivocally distanced themselves from the narrative presented by Momin, emphasizing that they authorised no statements or allegations made on their behalf and requested that all references implying their involvement be treated as inaccurate and misleading.
Meanwhile, Cherian Momin, adviser to the Confederation of Meghalaya Social Organisations (COMSO), has issued a formal clarification concerning his earlier representation to Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma. Momin acknowledged that the inclusion of Sengatchi K. Marak and Chianchi M. Marak’s names in the representation, which flagged alleged procedural irregularities in the appointment of sanctioned teaching posts at People’s College in Mendipathar, was a result of a clerical error. He clarified that the reference to the two individuals was unintentional and not reflective of any verified documentation at the time of submission, adding that there was no intention to question their professional merit, conduct, or eligibility. Momin reaffirmed that his original communication aimed to highlight systemic concerns regarding transparency, rule-based governance, and fair recruitment practices, rather than to malign any individual.
