Eid al-Fitr 2022: PM Modi Extend Eid Greetings

Guwahati: Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his best wishes on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr, which marks the conclusion of the holy month of Ramzan.

Taking to Twitter, PM Modi wrote, “Best wishes on Eid-ul-Fitr. May this auspicious occasion enhance the spirit of togetherness and brotherhood in our society. May everyone be blessed with good health and prosperity.”

The first day of Shawwal in the Islamic calendar is Eid-ul-Fitr; however, the start of each lunar Hijri month changes depending on when the new moon is spotted by local religious authorities, thus it does not always fall on the same Gregorian day.

People who follow Islam fast for a month from sunrise to sunset during Ramadan and celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr all around the world.

The month-long fasting has come to an end with the sighting of the crescent moon, and Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated across the country on Tuesday.

Ramzan is a Muslim holy month that commemorates the Prophet Muhammad’s first revelation of the Quran. Ramzan is also the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, and it is characterised by a 30-day fast.

Practicing Muslims abstain from eating or drinking from sunrise to sunset during this month. They eat Sehri (a pre-dawn meal) in the morning and ‘Iftar’ in the evening to break their day-long fast.
