Eight Key BJP Leaders in Jiribam Mandal Resign Over Growing Discontent with Manipur’s Crisis
Imphal: In a significant political development, eight key office bearers of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Jiribam Mandal in Manipur have resigned, citing dissatisfaction with the current situation in the region.
The resignation, delivered in a joint letter to the BJP Manipur Pradesh leadership, reflects growing concern over the state of affairs in Jiribam and the broader context of ongoing ethnic unrest in Manipur.
The resigned members include K. Jadu Singh (President), Mutum Hemanta Singh (General Secretary), P. Biramani Singh (General Secretary – Organisation), Mutum Brojendro Singh (Executive Member), Th. Meghajit Singh (Executive Member), L. Chaoba Singh (Executive Member), among others. The letter emphasized their collective concern over the deteriorating law-and-order situation and the lack of effective governance under the BJP-led state government.
In their resignation statement, the leaders expressed frustration with the inability to resolve the ongoing ethnic conflict that has plagued Manipur, displacing thousands and exacerbating tensions across the state. They described the situation as “unwelcome and helpless,” with the absence of concrete solutions prompting their decision to step down.
This move comes at a time when the BJP-led government under Chief Minister N. Biren Singh is facing increasing criticism for its handling of the state’s ethnic violence. The growing discontent within the BJP’s grassroots leadership in Manipur is likely to further complicate the party’s position in the region.
The mass resignation of the eight BJP office bearers underscores the mounting pressure on local leaders, who feel sidelined and powerless amidst the ongoing crisis. With the state grappling with both political and social unrest, this development marks a new chapter in the challenges faced by the BJP in Manipur, potentially signaling a weakening of its influence in the region.
