Eknath Shinde-Devendra Fadnavis Floor Test today

Guwahati: Eknath Shinde-led Maharashtra administration will be put to the test on the floor during the special session of the state legislative assembly on Monday.

The assembly will have a special two-day session following a high-stakes political thriller in the state, where a new government headed by dissident Shiv Sena MLA Shinde overthrew the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) rule.

Earlier on Sunday evening, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde along with his faction of Shiv Sena MLAs held a meeting with Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis, BJP MLAs, and other party leaders at a hotel in Mumbai.

Rahul Narvekar of the BJP was chosen as Speaker of the Maharashtra Assembly on the first day of the extraordinary assembly session. Rajan Salvi of the Shiv Sena, who received 107 votes, was defeated by Narvekar, who received 164 votes. Since Nana Patole of the Congress resigned in February of last year, the speaker’s position has been empty.

The BJP currently holds 106 seats in the 288-member Maharashtra Assembly, while Shinde is in charge of 39 Shiv Sena rebel lawmakers as well as several independents. The present strength of the assembly has been decreased to 287 as a result of the recent death of a Shiv Sena MLA; hence, the majority mark is 144.
