Guwahati: An elderly husband-wife duo was recovered death from their residence in Udalguri town of Assam on Wednesday.
The incident took place in the Udalguri district in the state’s Bodoland Territorial Region.
The deceased couple has been identified as Balram Bodo and Santana Bodo.
According to reports, the couple was found in a hanging state.
Upon receiving the information, police reached the spot and sent the bodies for post mortem.
The locals claimed that their living conditions were terrible.
Officials informed that prima facie it seemed to be a case of suicide.
Officials also added that the couple’s extraordinary action may have been motivated by their great poverty.
Moreover, it is suspected that the wife was strangled to death by the husband before he committed suicide by hanging, police said.
However, further investigation is being carried out.
