Elderly Woman Dies in Elephant Attack Near Assam-Arunachal Border

Guwahati: A somber incident has unfolded in the vicinity of the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border as the persistent human-elephant conflict in the region claimed another life.

The tragic event occurred in Katha Chema village, situated near Jagun, where a wild elephant attacked and killed an elderly woman.

The victim has been identified as 78-year-old Shobha Tamang, a resident of Jairampur in the neighboring state of Arunachal Pradesh, who was visiting her relatives in the Assam village when the unfortunate encounter took place.

Eyewitness accounts from local residents suggest that the elephant unexpectedly emerged from the dense forest, directly attacking and fatally trampling the visiting woman, creating a scene of panic and grief within the community.

Responding to the distressing news, officials from the forest department and local police have arrived at the incident site to evaluate the circumstances surrounding the tragic death.
