Election Commission Accepts Nomination of Jailed ‘Waris Punjab De’ Chief Amritpal Singh

National Desk, 15th May: The Election Commission of India has accepted the nomination form of Amritpal Singh, the jailed chief of ‘Waris Punjab De,’ on May 15. Currently detained under the National Security Act (NSA) in Dibrugarh Jail, Assam, Amritpal Singh is contesting the Lok Sabha elections as an independent candidate from the Khadoor Sahib constituency in Punjab.

Voting in Punjab is scheduled for June 1. Khadoor Sahib, notable for having the highest percentage of Sikh voters (75.15%) in the state, is the only constituency that spans across Punjab’s three regions—Malwa, Majha, and Doaba—earning it the nickname ‘Mini-Punjab.’

Amritpal Singh’s candidacy, despite his incarceration, highlights the unique and complex political landscape of Punjab as the state prepares for the upcoming elections.
