Election Commission Imposes Ban on Exit Polls and Election-Related Content
National Desk, 30th March: The Election Commission has issued a notification, imposing a prohibition on the conduct, publication, or promotion of exit polls from 7:00 am on April 19 until 6:30 pm on June 1. This restriction aligns with the voting period for the Lok Sabha and four state assembly elections, ensuring the integrity of the electoral process.
The notification, released on Thursday, underscores the provisions of the Representation of the People Act, which strictly prohibits the showcasing of any election-related content, including the outcomes of opinion polls or surveys, on any electronic media platform during the crucial 48-hour period leading up to the conclusion of the polls.
In addition to the Lok Sabha elections, several state assemblies, including those of Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Odisha, and Sikkim, are set to conduct elections, further emphasizing the significance of maintaining electoral neutrality.
Moreover, by-elections for 25 assembly constituencies across 12 states are also scheduled during this period, underscoring the comprehensive nature of the electoral process and the need for stringent regulatory measures to safeguard its integrity.
