Election Commission Initiates Special Summary Revision of Electoral Roll in Assam
Guwahati, 1st September: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has launched a special summary revision of the electoral roll in Assam, aligning it with the recently delimited assembly and parliamentary constituencies in the state. Key dates in this process have been announced:
- Final list of polling stations: November 10
- Draft electoral roll publication: December 1
- Final electoral roll release: January 31, 2024
This updating process will continue until the ECI officially announces the election schedule. Chief Electoral Officer Anurag Goel highlighted the comprehensive efforts, including pre-revision of Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) and 100% physical verification through field personnel.
Due to the delimitation exercise, significant changes are expected in the electoral rolls, with 80% of polling stations remaining unchanged, 10% relocated, and 10% newly established. Pre-First Level Checking (FLC) of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) is scheduled from September 1 to 19, and discussions with political parties have been conducted to prepare for these proceedings.
