Election Commission of India Concludes SSR 2025 for Sikkim, Adds Over 1,000 New Voters
The Election Commission of India (ECI) has successfully completed the Special Summary Revision (SSR) 2025 for Sikkim, ensuring the accuracy and inclusivity of the state’s electoral rolls. This annual exercise, which began on October 29, 2024, focused on updating voter lists across all Assembly constituencies except Soreng Chakung and Namchi Singhithang, where recent by-elections necessitated a separate schedule.
For the 30 remaining constituencies, claims and objections were accepted from October 29 to November 28. The SSR process for Soreng Chakung and Namchi Singhithang began later, on November 27, with submissions closing on December 12.
The finalized electoral roll, shared with recognized political parties, revealed a net increase of 0.35% in the voter count compared to the draft roll published earlier. The total number of registered voters in Sikkim now stands at 4,67,327, comprising 2,33,828 male voters, 2,33,495 female voters, and 4 transgender voters.
This revision marks the addition of 1,387 first-time voters aged 18-19 years, reflecting growing participation among the youth. Additionally, 2,598 service voters were included, ensuring representation for those serving in armed forces and essential roles.
In total, the process saw the inclusion of 1,625 new voters through enrolment and migration. Conversely, 2,347 names were removed due to duplication, death, or other eligibility issues, maintaining the integrity of the voter list.
The ECI’s annual SSR process remains crucial in fostering an accurate and inclusive electoral system, empowering citizens to actively participate in the democratic process.
