Election Commission: Won’t delay UP election, Parties against postponing
Guwahati: Chief Election Commissioner Sushil Chandra during a press conference in Lucknow on Thursday said that the state’s assembly elections will not be postponed. “All political parties’ representatives met with us and advised us that elections should be held on time and in accordance with all Covid-19 protocols,” he stated.
According to reports, voting will be available from home for people over the age of 80, those with disabilities, and those impacted by Covid.
The EC delegation met with district magistrates, police chiefs, commissioners, IGs, DIGs, and other officials on Wednesday to review the preparations for the upcoming elections in order to ensure free and fair elections.
Meanwhile, during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Kanpur earlier this week, Kanpur police arrested five Samajwadi Party (SP) supporters for allegedly engaging in rioting and criminal conspiracy to disturb the peace.
Taking a shot at the opposition, UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said on Wednesday that if the SP or BSP had been in power, all of the money meant for public welfare would have gone into their personal bank accounts.
“We’re distributing free COVID19 vaccines to all and free ration to the destitute,” Adityanath stated during a gathering in Farrukhabad. This is what happens when a good government is in place. All the money earmarked for public welfare would have gone into their personal accounts if the SP or BSP had been in power.”
