Electrocution Incident Claims Life of Labourer on Assam Bridge Construction Site

Guwahati, 23rd April: In a devastating accident on the construction site of the Majuli-Lakhimpur bridge in Assam, labourer Sabrir Ali lost his life after reportedly coming into contact with a high-voltage wire. The unfortunate incident occurred while Ali was working atop the bridge, resulting in his tragic demise. Another labourer nearby sustained burn injuries and was promptly transported to a hospital in Dibrugarh for medical treatment.

The bridge construction, overseen by the company ‘S P Singla,’ has come under scrutiny following allegations of negligence in ensuring worker safety. Police were swift to respond to the scene, recovering Ali’s body for post-mortem examination as investigations into the incident continue.

This incident echoes a similar tragedy earlier this year when a labourer fell to his death from an under-construction flyover in Kampur, located in Assam’s Nagaon district. According to reports, the labourer accidentally tripped and fell off the flyover while working, resulting in a fatal outcome.

The successive accidents highlight the critical need for stringent safety protocols and enhanced vigilance on construction sites to prevent such tragedies in the future. As authorities investigate the circumstances surrounding both incidents, questions regarding worker safety standards and accountability loom large, underscoring the imperative of prioritizing safety measures in construction projects across the region.
