Electronic Voting Machines Deployed for Upcoming General Assembly Elections in Mizoram
Northeast Desk, 6th November: In preparation for the upcoming General Assembly elections in Mizoram, electronic voting machines have started arriving in Aizawl district on the morning of November 6, being distributed across 321 polling stations, according to reports.
Election officials on duty are being deployed to polling stations alongside these electronic voting machines.
As part of the election process, a total of 2,058 votes have already been cast through home voting, with 7,497 votes received via postal ballots at designated facilitation centers for the Mizoram Assembly elections, as confirmed by an official from the Mizoram CEO office.
By 5 PM on Saturday, a total of 9,555 votes were cast through home voting and postal ballots, as per the official.
In an effort to ensure inclusivity, the home voting process for the 2023 Mizoram Legislative Assembly elections has been expanded to various districts in the state, enabling senior citizens (aged 80 and above) and voters with disabilities (PwD) to participate. In addition to regular voters, polling personnel, other officials, and essential services personnel on duty are also casting their votes through postal ballots. To uphold transparency and fairness in the elections, webcasting arrangements have been established at 765 out of the 1,276 polling stations, covering 60 percent of the total polling stations in the state, the official explained.
