According to reports from the region, a herd consisting of ten wild elephants, accompanied by the calf, ventured into the Bihaguri Kalitagaon area within the West Sonitpur Forest Division of Tezpur on the night of February 24.

A Forest Department official revealed that despite concerted efforts to deter the herd, the calf, weakened by injury, became incapacitated and fell behind its companions.
