Elephant Carcass Found in Guwahati’s Rani

Guwahati: In a tragic incident, a carcass of an elephant was recovered under mysterious circumstances at Rani in the outskirts of Guwahati on Saturday.

This occurs the day after festivities honouring World Elephant Day. Locals reportedly suspected it to be a poacher’s handiwork.

Officials informed that the trunk and tusks of the carcass were missing. They claimed that a sizable section of its body was also severed.

Moreover, the elephant was murdered three days ago, officials added.

It should be mentioned that another tusker killing incidence was reported in Beloguri in the Karbi Anglong district of Assam.

The fact that the cadaver there was discovered without its teeth and trunk suggested that poachers were responsible, as such parts fetch high sums in black markets.

Locals have said that despite alerting forest department authorities, no one came to look at the situation.

The exact cause of death in this case is yet to be ascertained.
