Elephant Carcass Found in Kamrup District: Suspected Starvation Raises Alarms

Kamrup, August 21, 2024 The lifeless body of a wild elephant was discovered today in the Shingra Palahpara area of Kamrup district, sparking concerns among local residents and wildlife authorities. The elephant, which was reportedly seen wandering the forest in search of food, was found dead under circumstances that suggest it may have succumbed to starvation.

Residents who first came across the tragic scene expressed fears that the elephant’s death might be linked to the scarcity of food and the shrinking habitat in the surrounding forest. The exact cause of death, however, remains undetermined pending a thorough investigation by wildlife authorities.

This incident has once again underscored the urgent need for enhanced measures to protect wildlife in the region. As human activities encroach upon natural habitats, instances of wild animals straying into human-inhabited areas in search of food have become increasingly common, posing a growing threat to both wildlife and local communities. Authorities are being urged to address these challenges to prevent further losses and ensure the safety of both wildlife and people in the region.
