Elephant Electrocuted Amid Uruka Festivities in Assam’s Golaghat
Guwahati, 15th January: In a somber turn of events during the festive occasion of ‘Uruka,’ an elephant met a tragic end due to electrocution at Letekujan in Greater Morangi, Golaghat district, Assam.
Reports indicate that a herd of elephants has been moving through various localities in the Morangi area for approximately six months. A separate group of elephants had been present in the Letekujan area for the past week. Tragically, one of the elephants in this herd came into contact with a live electric wire near National Highway 39 last night, leading to its immediate demise.
Swift action was taken as a team of forest personnel promptly reached the scene to recover the carcass of the deceased elephant. The incident underscores the ongoing challenges faced by wildlife due to human-wildlife conflict, emphasizing the need for enhanced conservation measures and community awareness.
