Elephant-Human Conflict Intensifies in Assam, Innocent Lives Lost
Guwahati: The conflict between elephants and humans continues to escalate in Assam, with frequent clashes between wild elephants and humans observed in several districts.
The state’s natural habitat has been significantly encroached upon due to human activities, leading to a surge in elephant-human conflicts.
In Jamugurihat, wild elephants have been causing havoc in agricultural fields, destroying crops and worrying farmers.
At Panpurghat, wild elephants from the sixth addition of Kaziranga National Park have been venturing into fields, destroying rice crops and other valuable crops like aubergine (brinjal).
Farmers in the region are bearing the brunt of the elephant-human conflict, with their livelihoods being threatened by the destruction of their crops. The situation is becoming increasingly dire, with innocent people losing their lives in the conflict.
The forest department’s lack of provisions to prevent wild elephants from entering human settlements and agricultural fields has exacerbated the problem. The people are now worried about the disturbances caused by wild elephants and are seeking effective solutions to mitigate the conflict.
The elephant-human conflict in Assam requires urgent attention and action from authorities to prevent further loss of life and property. Effective measures need to be taken to protect both human settlements and wildlife habitats, and to find a sustainable solution to this complex issue.
