Eleven killed in a road accident in Uttarakhand
Guwahati: At least 11 people were killed and two others injured in a road accident in Champawat district of Uttarakhand on Tuesday.
The incident took place near the Sukhidang Reetha Sahib Road in Budam village of the district.
According to reports, the victims were returning from a wedding held in Panchmukhi Dharamshala in Tanakpur when the accident took place.
According to Kumaon Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), Nilesh Anand Bharane said, “11 dead and 2 injured when a vehicle fell into a gorge near Sukhidang Reetha Sahib Road. The victims were returning from a wedding party held in Panchmukhi Dharamshala, Tanakpur.”
He added that the injured driver and another person have been rushed to the district hospital for medical treatment.
As per reports, the deceased persons belonged to the Danda and Kathoti villages of Kakanai in Uttarakhand.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressing grief over the incident Twitted. He stated that the local administration was engaged in relief and rescue work.
PM Modi wrote in Hindi, “The accident in Champawat, Uttarakhand is heart-wrenching. I express my condolences to the families of those who have died in this accident. Local administration is engaged in relief and rescue work.”

It may be mentioned that five bodies have been recovered and identity of the deceased persons is yet to be ascertained.
Further investigation into the matter is underway.
