Empowering Government Officials is Key to Development, Says Arunachal CM Pema Khandu
Pasighat, Arunachal Pradesh – Chief Minister Pema Khandu emphasized the crucial role of government officials in driving welfare and development, stating that their empowerment is key to progress.
Addressing a review meeting in East Siang district’s Pasighat on February 11, Khandu urged officers to focus on solutions rather than problems, asserting that such an approach would accelerate the state’s overall development.
Speaking to the officials, Khandu highlighted the contrast between political leaders and government employees, stressing that while politicians hold office temporarily, bureaucrats and administrators serve the public for years. “We (the politicians) are temporary. You (government employees) are permanent. We will come and go in five years, but you will serve the people for so many years. Your role in the state’s development is crucial,” he remarked.
The chief minister underlined the significance of deputy commissioners in Arunachal Pradesh’s governance and development, calling them the backbone of administration.
Strengthening district authorities, he said, would improve last-mile citizen service delivery and ensure more efficient governance at the grassroots level.
Khandu also announced the introduction of a “bottom-up planning” approach, under which district-level vision and development plans would be created with deputy commissioners playing a pivotal role. “Our goal is to pinpoint the exact problems and needs of each district, and identify key areas for prioritization,” he stated.
The meeting reflected the state government’s focus on decentralized governance and strengthening local administration to achieve long-term development goals.
