Guwahati: An encounter broke out between Assam police and militants of the United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I) in Margherita, Tinsukia district of Assam early on Thursday morning.
According to reports, the incident occurred at Tikak Parbat in Ledo close to Margherita town in the Tinsukia district of Assam.
A team of police authorities launched an operation to apprehend the ULFA-I cadres after obtaining information that they were hiding there.
However, as soon as they arrived at the scene, both parties started firing which is believed to have resulted in multiple fatalities. According to police, the firing started in the early hours of today morning.
Moreover, the authorities have not yet confirmed the number of people who were injured during the subsequent firing in Tinsukia.
