Encounter in Chhattisgarh: Two Naxalites Killed in Encounter With DRD Jawans

National Desk, May 8: An encounter broke out between an operation team of the District Reserve Guard and Maoists in Bheji area of Chhattisgarh’s Sukma district. Two Maoists were killed in the encounter.

The operation was led by district superintendent of police Sunil Sharma. It is learnt that operations against militants are still going on in the area.

On May 1, Maoists attacked two tipper trucks engaged in construction work in Itapara area of Sukma district and torched the two vehicles.

At least 10 policemen and a driver were killed in an IED blast triggered by Maoists in Chhattisgarh’s Dantewada on April 26. The attack took place in Aranpur area of Dantewada.

The Maoists blew up a rented vehicle carrying security personnel through this IED blast. The security personnel killed in the blast belonged to the District Reserve Guard (DRG). 

Most of those deployed in the DRG are local tribals trained to fight Maoists. A DRG team had gone to the spot on the day of the incident in Aranpur area of the district after receiving inputs of the presence of Maoists. The IED blast took place when they were returning from the area at the end of the operation.
