ENPO Meet Triggers 12-Hour Shutdown in Tuensang Amid Frontier Nagaland Issue
Northeast Desk, 18th March: In response to the enforcement of a public emergency across the Eastern Nagaland region, the Eastern Nagaland Public Organization (ENPO) has issued directives for the upcoming public meeting scheduled for March 19, 2024, at Tuensang Headquarters.
All invitees attending the public meeting are instructed to arrive in private vehicles and without personal bodyguards. Additionally, as part of the security measures, all business establishments, vehicular and public movements, including educational institutions, within Tuensang town, will remain completely shut down from 6 am to 6 pm on March 19.
However, delegates attending the meeting, medical emergencies, and fire and emergency services are exempted from the shutdown.
Despite a request from the legislators’ union to postpone the meeting, the ENPO has declined the proposal. Following a thorough discussion, it was unanimously decided to proceed with the scheduled meeting. The ENPO emphasized that convening the meeting is crucial, especially in light of the Election Model Code of Conduct for the Lok Sabha 2024 elections already being declared by the Election Commission of India (ECI).
The ENPO urged members of the legislators’ union to prioritize attending the proposed meeting, considering its significance and the constraints posed by the Election Model Code of Conduct.
