ENPO Presses Nagaland Government for Response on Draft Memorandum of Settlement
Nagaland: The *Eastern Nagaland People’s Organisation (ENPO)* held a critical coordination and consultative meeting with its *Frontal and Tribal Organisations* in *Mon Town* on *October 11, 2024*, to reinforce its demand for a timely response from the Nagaland State Government regarding the “Highlight of the draft MoS with ENPO on Frontier Nagaland Territory (FNT).”
The meeting concluded with a unanimous resolution calling on the state authorities to submit their comments on the draft by *October 31, 2024. This push for action comes after several unaddressed communications from the ENPO, including an initial request to Nagaland Chief Minister **Neiphiu Rio* on *August 23, 2024, followed by a reminder on **September 14, 2024*.
The ENPO’s call for state input was in response to the *Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s* presentation of the draft *Memorandum of Settlement (MoS)* on *December 18, 2023*, aimed at addressing the aspirations of the Eastern Nagas. Since then, little progress has been made, with no formal response from the state government, leading to frustration among the Eastern Nagas.
With the *October 31* deadline fast approaching, the ENPO is urging the Chief Minister to prioritize the matter, emphasizing the need to address the aspirations of the *Eastern Naga communities. If the deadline passes without a response, the ENPO plans to convene a **Central Executive Council (CEC)* meeting on *November 1, 2024*, to discuss the next steps.
The ENPO’s stance underscores the importance of resolving the long-standing issues of the Eastern Naga region, with hopes that the Nagaland government will respond promptly to avoid further delays.
