Eviction Drive Fallout: 21 Arrested After Violent Clashes in Paikan Reserve Forest

Goalpara, Assam: Tensions continue to simmer in the Paikan Reserve Forest area of Goalpara district following a violent confrontation on Thursday, which saw police personnel attacked during an eviction drive. The incident has led to a significant crackdown by security forces, with the total number of arrests now reaching 21.

Late on Friday night, a targeted operation by security forces across the Krishnai region resulted in the apprehension of 11 more individuals. These fresh arrests come after an initial wave of detentions, bringing the total count of those linked to the clash to over two dozen.

Police sources indicate that several individuals accused of involvement in the unrest have reportedly fled to other parts of Goalpara, attempting to evade capture. However, authorities are leaving no stone unturned, intensifying their efforts to track down and apprehend all culprits. Scrutiny of video footage recorded during the volatile incident is a key part of their ongoing investigation.

A senior police official, speaking on condition of anonymity, affirmed the resolve of the forces. “The operation is ongoing, and we are confident of identifying and nabbing all culprits,” the official stated, while refraining from divulging further operational details.

In the aftermath of the violence, security has been visibly ramped up in and around the eviction site. The district administration is maintaining a high level of vigilance, closely observing the evolving situation to ensure that law and order prevails and to prevent any further escalation of unrest.
