Eviction Paves Way for NH-217 Widening at Dinadubi

Dinadubi, Assam: A significant eviction drive was carried out peacefully at Dinadubi, near Dudhnai along the Assam-Meghalaya border, to facilitate the crucial widening of National Highway 217. The operation, executed by the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) under the directives of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, focused on clearing encroachments within the Dinadubi Bazar area on the Assam side.

The drive saw the demolition of multiple commercial establishments and shops, all undertaken without any untoward incident. The presence of officials from the local administration, NHIDCL, and a strong contingent of police personnel from Dudhnai, Damra, and even neighbouring areas of Meghalaya ensured the smooth and orderly execution of the entire process. This collaborative effort underscored the importance placed on maintaining peace during such infrastructure development initiatives.

This eviction forms a vital component of NHIDCL’s broader vision to enhance road infrastructure across India’s Northeast. The widening of NH-217, specifically the stretch from Dainadubi to Darugiri in Meghalaya, is anticipated to significantly improve regional connectivity and provide a substantial boost to developmental activities in the area. The project aims to streamline traffic flow and foster economic growth.

While the operation concluded without any resistance from the affected parties, details regarding compensation or rehabilitation packages for the displaced business owners were not immediately made available. Further updates are keenly awaited as the highway expansion project moves forward.
