Evictions in Assam Will Continue: CM Sarma At BJP Core Committee Meet

Guwahati: Assam chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma reaffirmed on Tuesday during a core committee meeting of the BJP state unit that evictions to clear off forest areas will be continued throughout the state.

The state core committee of the party met for the first time in the new year at this time. Tuesday’s high-level meeting was conducted at the state office of the BJP in Hengrabari, Guwahati.

The chief minister of Assam Himanta Biswa Sarma was also present during the summit. He was standing next to Sarbananda Sonowal who is the former chief minister and the current union minister for ports, shipping and waterways.

The meeting where discussions about topics like India’s G20 Presidency, the Lok Sabha elections and the booth strengthening programme were held, was attended by all members of the party’s core committee.

It should be mentioned that five of the 200 events taking place during India’s G20 Presidency will be held in Guwahati.

Speaking on the occasion, the CM Sarma discussed the eviction in Assam’s Lakhimpur. He said, “It had been notified by the authorities that eviction drives will be carried out. Further evictions will continue to be carried out and more forest land will be freed from illegal encroachment.”

He went on to mention that during the drives only specified hectares of land area had been freed. Taking to Twitter, CM Sarma wrote, “Attended a Core Committee meeting of @BJP4Assam to discuss ways at strengthening the party.”

“It stressed on organisational activities to take the message of development the region is witnessing under Hon’ble PM Shri @narendramodi ji’s visionary leadership to the grassroots,” he added.

In a further tweet, the Assam CM mentioned, “It discussed Y20 Group meet to be held in Assam & BJP State Executive in Morigaon on Jan 24.BJP State Prez Shri @Bhabesh_KalitaR, Hon Min Shri @sarbanandsonwal, Hon Union MoS Shri @Rameswar_Teli, BJP State GS (Org) Shri @PhanindranathS3 & Core Committee members  were present.”
