Ex CM Manish Sisodia Sent to 14-day Judicial Custody

Guwahati: Former deputy chief minister of Delhi Manish Sisodia has been placed in judicial custody for fourteen days in connection with the liquor policy case.

The senior Aam Aadmi Party (APP) leader has spent five days in CBI custody since last week that came following his detention in connection with the Delhi Liquor Policy case.

Mr. Sisodia was sent to custody by the CBI for five days after his detention. He was presented in court on Saturday and special judge MK Nagpal extended his custody to the government body for an additional two days.

According to the court, the former Deputy Chief Minister’s bail application will now be considered on Friday.

According to reports, the CBI may decide against requesting additional custody of Sisodia and instead suggest a 14-day judicial custody for him.

Keeping him in detention, according to his advocate will “serve no useful purpose” because all recoveries in the case have already been made. The “inefficiency of the agency” in completing the investigation he added cannot be a reason for remand.

The CBI has also claimed that Mr. Sisodia was evasive and uncooperative when being questioned. Also mentioned were the amount of time spent during his medical test and the Supreme Court hearing on his bail request.

Previously, the CBI requested for three-day remand of Manish Sisodia.

Sisodia was brought before a court after his five days of CBI custody were up. Before a specialised court in the city, he made a bail motion.

In connection with an ongoing investigation into alleged irregularities in the formulation and application of the Delhi government’s excise policy, Sisodia was detained a few days ago.

The Supreme Court declined to hear Sisodia’s appeal of his arrest in connection with the excise policy case thus the top court advised him to appeal to the Delhi High Court instead.

Workers and leaders of the AAP protested the detention of Sisodia throughout numerous states. The BJP, according to the party, attacked him in order to deflect attention away from the unfolding Adani scandal.
