Ex Sikkim Krantikari Morcha MK Sharma joins SDF

Northeast Desk, 21st March: In a significant development reshaping Sikkim’s political landscape, Singtam Khamdong MLA MK Sharma, along with retired Superintendent Engineer Sonam Dorjee Bhutia from Tathangchen and Tara Bhattarai, joined the Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) party.

The transition took place today (March 21) during a mass joining event held at Khamdong under the Singtam Khamdong constituency.

MK Sharma, who served as the Health Minister in the Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) government, resigned from his ministerial post over an immigration dispute early last year. His recent resignation from the SKM party marks a pivotal shift in his political allegiance.

The influx of key figures into the SDF party underscores a dynamic reconfiguration of political affiliations in Sikkim. This follows yesterday’s notable defections to the ruling SKM party, including Raju Basnett, former Sports and Youth Affairs Secretary, Chewang Gyatso Bhutia, former Rural Development Department Secretary, Gopal Baraily, former MLA, Bharti Sharma, former SKM Working President, and Hemendra Adhikari, SDF party’s CLC President.

As these transitions unfold, Sikkim’s political landscape witnesses a series of strategic realignments, setting the stage for an intriguing electoral contest in the days ahead.
