Ex-ULFA member held for inducing youths to join outfit in Assam’s Tinsukia

Guwahati, 1st August: The United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA) is being actively pursued by the Tinsukia police in upper Assam. In the midst of their efforts, they were able to capture former ULFA member Surjit Gogoi, who was allegedly responsible for enticing young people to join the outlawed outfit. This operation takes place as concerns about ULFA’s regional operations grow.

Aisaang Assam allegedly targeted former ULFA member Surjit Gogoi, giving him a list of 17 youths and pressuring him to induct them into the organization. The incident came to light after Tinsukia police discovered that Aisaang Assam had participated in the recruitment effort.

The Tinsukia police conducted an operation based on intelligence, finding hidden sources and capturing Surjit Gogoi while he was on the move. By detaining the former ULFA member, the authorities are thought to have prevented an attempt to draw other young people into the extreme band.

The Tinsukia police detained Surjit Gogoi in 2022 after he had joined the ULFA in 2021. The police are currently conducting an investigation with the goal of exposing all facets of the recruitment operation and gathering proof to prosecute those responsible.

According to police sources, Aichang Assam first made contact with Surjit Gogoi via Facebook, and from that point on, the recruitment scheme developed.
