Failing to Pay Debts, Couple Allegedly Dies By Suicide In Assam
Guwahati: A couple committed suicide by hanging themselves inside their residence at Barshidhani in Bajali district of Assam on Wednesday.
The incident took place under the Baghmara police outpost.
The couple have been identified as Dilip Kalita and Kunja Kalita.
According to reports, the couple was found hanging by their neighbours and informed the police about the incident at around 7 pm yesterday.
Reportedly, it has been suspected that the couple committed suicide as they were unable to repay their debt.
According to the Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of the Baghmara Police Outpost, Dilip worked as a pharmacist and did not come in after lunch, in contrast to other days. Concerned neighbours began knocking on their door, and when they opened it, they recovered the husband and wife hanging inside.
The couple may have committed suicide because of their debt burden, according to neighbours who reportedly told police officials.
The couple left behind a daughter who is married and stays at her in-laws’ house in Bijni.
The bodies have been sent for post-mortem by the police.
Further investigations are underway.
