Fake Kuki-Zo Council Raises Security Concerns in Manipur
Imphal: Manipur state authorities have launched an investigation into a purported organisation named the “Kuki-Zo Council,” raising concerns about its authenticity and potential implications for regional security. State officials have categorically denied the existence of such a registered entity within the state’s records.
The group’s claims of operating from a headquarters in “Lamka” have further added to the mystery, as no such district is recognized within Manipur’s administrative structure. This development comes amid heightened security tensions in India’s northeastern region.
Law enforcement agencies are currently in the process of filing a First Information Report (FIR) to delve deeper into the group’s origins and motives.
In response to the evolving situation, the Ministry of Home Affairs has reimposed the Protected Area Regime across the states of Manipur, Mizoram, and Nagaland. This move, implemented under the Foreigners (Protected Areas) Order, 1958, requires foreign visitors to obtain Protected Area Permits (PAP), allowing for stricter oversight of cross-border movement.
State authorities have issued a stern warning to media outlets, urging them to exercise vigilance when reporting on statements from unverified sources. The government has also appealed to central agencies to disregard any communications from unauthorised groups.
To address public concerns and facilitate information verification, the government has established a dedicated helpline. Citizens can utilize this service to inquire about the authenticity of registered organisations and report any suspicious activities. As investigations unfold, state officials remain committed to closely monitoring the situation.
