Fake lawyer held for duping client of Rs 15,000 in Assam’s Jorhat

Guwahati: A self-proclaimed lawyer has been arrested by Jorhat police for allegedly duping a client and taking Rs 15,000 from him.

The self-proclaimed lawyer identified as Padum Karmakar.

According to reports, Karmakar allegedly obtained the funds from a destitute client in order to satisfy her husband’s bail conditions, but then fled.

Cinamora police arrested the client’s husband on burglary allegations on April 15, 2022.

Meanwhile, with no other options, the victim sought assistance from the Bar Association on Tuesday.

According to a lawyer, the individual was frequently noticed by lawyers at the Jorhat Bar Association on the court grounds, but no one paid much attention to him.

Reportedly, the Jorhat Bar Association has called self-proclaimed lawyer Padum Karmakar for questioning at the Bar Association’s headquarters.

Before the association, the fraudster allegedly confessed to his crime and described his alleged involvement in defrauding clients.

It needs to be mentioned that a case was also registered against the fraud at the Jorhat police station.
