Families of Missing A’chal Mountaineers to Launch Hunger Strike

Guwahati: The families of Tapi Mra and Niku Dao, two missing mountaineers from Arunachal Pradesh have made the decision to go on a hunger strike starting on Monday.

The state’s highest mountain peak, Mount Kyarisatam, which is close to the Chinese border, is where Arunachal’s Everesters Tapi Mra and Niku Dao were last seen in mid-August.

Notably, the missing climbers’ families have been holding an ongoing dharna in Itanagar’s IG Park, calling on the government to raise the issue with China.

The Arunachal Pradesh government has been urged to resume search and rescue efforts by the families of the mountaineers.

The two mountaineers’ possessions were found in October on a peak close to the Indo-China border.

The All Tagin Students’ Union (ATSU) gave the Arunachal Pradesh government a seven-day deadline on Saturday to respond to the concerns of the families of missing mountaineers Tapi Mra and Niku Dao.

Earlier, out of concern that Mra and Dao would be kidnapped from close to the LAC, the Tagin Cultural Society (TCS) also urged the State Government to start talking to its Chinese counterparts.
