Family of Sonam Raghuvanshi Denies Her Role in Husband’s Death, Calls for CBI Probe
Shillong: The family of Sonam Raghuvanshi, the prime suspect in the alleged murder of her husband Raja during their honeymoon in Meghalaya, has come forward in her defense following her recent surrender in Madhya Pradesh. Sonam’s father has strongly denied any wrongdoing on her part and has accused the Meghalaya Police of misleading the public about the circumstances of her surrender and the case.
Speaking to reporters, her father insisted that the marriage had taken place with the full consent of both families and dismissed the possibility that his daughter could have been involved in such a crime. “My daughter is innocent. I have full trust in her – she cannot do this,” he said, asserting that Sonam was not arrested by Meghalaya Police, but had voluntarily surrendered at a roadside eatery in Ghazipur after contacting her brother for help.
“She was not running away. She called her brother in distress, and the police picked her up from the dhaba around 2 a.m. last night,” he added. Questioning the police narrative, he asked, “Why would my daughter go on a honeymoon if she had any intention to kill? The police are fabricating stories.”
Amid growing scrutiny over the handling of the case, the family revealed plans to approach top political leaders, including Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, to press for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry. “We are confident that a fair investigation will prove her innocence. Once the CBI takes over, the truth will come out, and all officers involved in this conspiracy will be held accountable,” her father said.
Sonam’s mother, Sangeeta, echoed the family’s anguish. “We are thankful that she has been found, but the pain still remains… Now we want to know who was behind Raja’s murder. There’s sorrow even though she has returned — we lost Raja.”
As the case continues to capture public attention, questions around inter-state police coordination, investigative transparency, and justice for the deceased remain central to the unfolding drama. Authorities in both Meghalaya and Madhya Pradesh are now working to piece together the events that led to the mysterious death of Raja, as pressure mounts for an impartial probe.
