Farmers in Kokrajhar Embrace Grassroots Agricultural Outreach

Kokrajhar: A significant agricultural outreach programme, the Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan, kicked off today in Kokrajhar, aiming to forge direct connections with farmers and tackle ground-level issues head-on. This initiative, part of a pan-India drive spearheaded by the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, is designed to bolster local agricultural systems and facilitate on-the-spot problem-solving through genuine interaction.

The campaign saw its official launch at the East Maligaon VCDC Office in Bishmuri, graced by Kokrajhar East MLA Lawrence Islary and Gossaigaon MLA Jiron Basumatary. Set to conclude on June 12, the programme will reach out to cultivators across all Development Blocks within the district, promising widespread engagement.

The Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Kokrajhar is at the helm of this campaign, working in close coordination with Assam Agricultural University and a host of state departments, including Agriculture, Veterinary, Dairy Development, and Fisheries, alongside the Assam State Rural Livelihoods Mission (ASRLM). This multi-agency approach underscores the comprehensive nature of the initiative.

Officials highlighted that the programme is meticulously crafted to bring farmers face-to-face with agricultural scientists and government representatives. The objective is to foster open discussions on challenges, facilitate knowledge sharing, and raise awareness about existing development schemes. This direct engagement is expected to create a vital feedback loop, leading to more impactful policy implementation on the ground.

Today’s inaugural event witnessed enthusiastic participation from District Agriculture Officer Diganta Thapa, ASRLM Scheme Officer Bichitra Birjay Narzary, and a robust turnout from local farmers, marking a promising start to the two-week-long campaign. The air was thick with optimism as the first steps were taken towards a more empowered farming community in Kokrajhar.
