Father Arrested for Killing Daughter’s Boyfriend in South Sikkim
Gangtok: A 30-year-old man, Anjal Rai, was brutally killed outside his former partner’s house in Lower Mangzing, South Sikkim, on Saturday night. Two individuals, a 60-year-old father and a 15-year-old juvenile, have been arrested in connection with his death.
According to an FIR lodged by a local resident and eyewitness, Lakmit Lepcha, the incident unfolded around 11:00 pm on June 14. Anjal Rai was allegedly attacked by Tenzing Sherpa, the father of his former partner, Passang Lhamu Sherpa, and a juvenile boy, Rohan Chettri, who used an iron rod and a partially burnt wooden log to assault him. The attack occurred outside Passang’s home, where Rai had allegedly gone earlier that evening, armed with a khukuri, and broke open her door, leaving her with multiple injuries.
The police immediately registered a case and launched a thorough investigation. The murder weapon and other relevant exhibits were collected from the crime scene, and an inquest was carried out over the deceased’s body. Tenzing Sherpa and the juvenile have been taken into custody, with the police determining the circumstances surrounding the alleged murder.
The incident appears to have been sparked by Rai’s growing suspicion that Passang was involved in a new relationship. This suspicion may have fueled his violent actions, leading to the tragic confrontation. Passang is currently undergoing treatment at Yangang Primary Health Centre and is reported to be in stable condition.
The case is being investigated under Sections 103 and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023. The law will determine whether the retaliation qualifies as justified or excessive.
