Father of Slain Journalist Soumya Vishwanathan Passes Away
National Desk, 10th December: MK Vishwanathan, the father of journalist Soumya Vishwanathan, who was murdered in 2008, has passed away days after his daughter’s killers were sentenced to life imprisonment.
The 82-year-old had been hospitalized after suffering a heart attack just two days before the sentencing. During the court proceedings, a family member logged in from the hospital to allow MK Vishwanathan to watch the sentencing from the Intensive Care Unit.
Soumya Vishwanathan’s parents had fought a long legal battle for justice throughout the 14-year trial.
MK Vishwanathan expressed relief on the day the accused were convicted, emphasizing the need for the case to reach its “logical conclusion.”
