Guwahati: In a tragic incident, a father-son duo from Assam was killed in an explosion in a house near in Kannur of Kerala.
The deceased duo has been identified as 42-year-old Fazal Haque and his son 22-year-old Shaheedul, hailing from Sarbhog in Barpeta district.
According to reports, they recently returned from Kerala. They and another five labourers shared a rental home in Mattannur.
The father and son along with the other labourers were busy in collecting scrap materials.
The incident took place at around 5 pm on Wednesday. The explosion caused partially damage to the house. Fazal Haque was killed there and Shaheedul was taken to a private hospital in Mattannur by locals who had come to the area after hearing the explosion but he succumbed to his injuries on reaching the hospital.
However, the reason for the explosion is yet unknown. It is believed that some of the explosives found among the scrap products may have accidently detonated, causing the explosion.
The Kerala Police has begun an investigation into the incident.
