Ferry Accident at Guwahati-North Guwahati Ferry Ghat Narrowly Avoids Tragedy

Guwahati, 18th March: A ferry carrying passengers narrowly averted disaster when it lost control and collided with another ferry at the Guwahati-North Guwahati ferry ghat. Thankfully, no lives were lost in the incident.

The MV Kameng, ferrying approximately 200 passengers, lost control and collided with the MV Manikarneswar at the Majgaon ferry ghat on the north bank. The incident occurred as the MV Kameng was en route from the Majgaon ghat to the Guwahati ghat across the Brahmaputra River.

In addition to the passengers, the ferry also carried around 50 two-wheelers at the time of the accident.

While the collision did not result in any casualties, tensions rose at the ferry ghat as passengers questioned the management. Allegations surfaced that the ferry was being operated by someone other than the designated driver, leading to inexperience in maneuvering the vessel and consequently causing the accident.

The passengers expressed relief that a major tragedy was averted but emphasized the need for proper management and adherence to safety protocols to prevent similar incidents in the future.
