Ferry services between Guwahati- North Guwahati suspended due to rise in Brahmaputra Water Level

Guwahati: In the wake of rising water level of the Brahmaputra, ferry services between Guwahati and North Guwahati and plying of any vehicle in river Brahmaputra have been suspended on Tuesday subject to the recession of the water level.

The ferry service between Guwahati and North Guwahati has been disrupted due to the rising water level since May 17.

As heavy rains pounded numerous sections of the state and the Northeast, water levels in the Brahmaputra have reached unsafe levels.

Meanwhile, the suspension of services has created difficulties for many who prefer to travel by ferry.

It should be mentioned that the meteorological department in Guwahati has issued a heavy rainfall warning.

According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority, floods have affected up to two lakh people in 20 Assam districts (ASDMA).

A report from ASDMA said that the disaster has affected 1,97,248 individuals in 652 villages.

The 20 districts that have been affected by floods are Bajali, Baksa, Biswanath, Cachar, Charaideo, Darrang, Dhemaji, Dibrugarh, Dima Hasao, Hojai, Kamrup, Karbi Anglong West, Kokrajhar, Lakhimpur, Majuli, Nagaon, Nalbari, Sonitpur, Tamulpur and Udalguri.

The worst-affected district is Hojai which has 78,157 people affected by the flood, followed by Cachar which has 51,357 people affected. According to the report, 16645.61 hectares of crops are flooded.
