Ferry Services in Barak River Suspended Due to Rising Water Levels

Guwahati: Ferry services on the Barak River have been discontinued due to the worsening flood situation in Assam and rising river levels.

The river’s water level is rising at a rate of 11 centimetres per hour.

Meanwhile, Cachar’s district government has issued a red alert for the entire district due to rising water levels in the Barak River.

Residents who live near the river or in areas prone to landslides have been ordered to leave their homes. The district government has advised everyone to seek refuge in the nearby relief camps.

Rainfall is expected in Cachar district during the next three days, according to the weather agency.

The Kopili, Beki, Manas, Pagladiya, Puthimari, Jia-Bharali, and Brahmaputra rivers, among others, are currently flowing above the danger threshold.

The Brahmaputra River’s water level reached 48.61cm on Friday. The Brahmaputra’s upstream water level was 48.90cm, while the downstream water level was 48.80cm.

Nearly 13 lakh people are still stranded in floodwaters in 28 districts throughout the state.
