FIFA Honours Series On Life Of Indian Football Legend Sunil Chhetri

Guwahati: The legendary career of Indian footballer Sunil Chhetri has gained fresh notoriety in the form of the three-part television series “Captain Fantastic,” which will tell his tale.

FIFA, the governing body of the sport, announced on Tuesday that a series about the career and life of Chhetri is available on FIFA+, its streaming platform. “You know all about Ronaldo and Messi, now get the definitive story of the third highest scoring active men’s international. Sunil Chhetri | Captain Fantastic is available on FIFA+ now,” tweeted FIFA World Cup on Twitter.

It highlights a lot of the unknown and untold aspects of this celebrity, including his preteen turmoil, his 20-year-old international debut for India, his romance with his future wife, and both his early and apex as a football player with numerous accolades and records to his credit.

With 84 goals, he ranks third among active international football players, just behind luminaries like Lionel Messi of Argentina (90) and Cristiano Ronaldo of Portugal (117).

He holds the record for both most appearances and goals scored for India.

Chhetri assisted India in winning the 2011, 2015, and 2021 South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) Championships as well as the 2007, 2009, 2012, and Nehru Cup titles.

AIFF Player of the Year honours have also been given to the star footballer a record seven times.

The Khel Ratna Award, the nation’s top athletic honour, was given to him as well. He triumphed in 2021.
