Fifth Arrest Made in Horrific Manipur Viral Video Case; Outrage Grows Nationwide

National Desk, 22nd July: The Manipur Police has made a fifth arrest in connection with the shocking incident where two women were brutally assaulted and paraded naked by a mob amidst the state’s ongoing turmoil.

The recent arrestee has been identified as Yumlembam Nungsithoi Metei, aged 19, making it the fifth individual detained in relation to this heinous crime.

The tragic incident occurred in Manipur’s Thoubal district on May 4, shortly after a violent clash in the state. A case encompassing charges of abduction, gang rape, and murder was filed against unidentified miscreants at Nongpok Sekmai Police station.

Following the incident’s harrowing video going viral, the Central authorities took swift action, directing social media platforms to remove the content due to the ongoing investigation.

The video’s dissemination sparked outrage nationwide, prompting authorities to swiftly apprehend the culprits. The initial arrest of Huirem Heradas Singh, aged 32, resulted in an agitated mob, primarily comprising women, torching his residence.

In a determined pursuit of justice, three more arrests followed suit on the same day as the first detainment.

On Friday, four of the accused were remanded to 11-day police custody, as investigations continue to unravel the full extent of the horrifying events that unfolded on that fateful day. As the nation unites in condemning such acts of violence, the hope for justice remains steadfast, with authorities working tirelessly to bring all perpetrators to account.
