Finance Minister Sitharaman Advocates Tourism Boost in Island Paradises through Budget 2024

National Desk, 1st February: In the presentation of the Interim Budget 2024, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman underscored the importance of bolstering domestic tourism by enhancing infrastructure and amenities in Indian islands, with a special focus on Lakshadweep.

Sitharaman attributed the success of organizing G20 meetings across sixty locations in India to showcasing the nation’s diversity on a global scale. She highlighted upcoming initiatives for port connectivity and tourism infrastructure, aiming to create significant employment opportunities.

The impetus to promote tourism in less-explored islands, particularly Lakshadweep, gained traction following Prime Minister Modi’s visit in early January.

The Administrator of Union Territories of Dadra and Nagar Haveli expressed confidence that these initiatives would nurture beach games culture, support local sporting talents, and elevate the tourism potential of the region. Sitharaman also stressed the need for states to comprehensively develop iconic tourist centers and promote them globally.
