FIR Filed Against Akash Sagar for Trespassing and Desecrating Church in Meghalaya

Shillong: An FIR has been filed against Akash Sagar at Meghalaya’s Laitumkhrah police station after he allegedly trespassed and desecrated the Church of Epiphany in Mawlynnong, East Khasi Hills.

The complaint was lodged by prominent social activist Angela Rangad, who accused Sagar of entering the church’s altar area and engaging in disruptive behaviour, including shouting non-Christian slogans and mockingly singing religious songs.

Rangad emphasized that such actions could disrupt public peace and lead to disorder, urging social media platforms to block the content and hold those responsible accountable.

In response to the FIR, Sagar took to social media, initially questioning the allegations, stating, “For saying Jai Shree Ram?” He shared a screenshot of news reports detailing the FIR before deleting his posts. In his comments, Sagar dismissed the accusations, calling them “so-called” and accused his critics of acting like “traitors.”

He further justified his actions by referencing a ruling by the Karnataka High Court, which had quashed criminal proceedings against two individuals for shouting “Jai Shri Ram” inside a mosque, claiming it did not “outrage the religious feelings of any class.”

Sagar’s comments sparked controversy, with critics accusing him of disrespecting religious sanctity and calling for actions to preserve communal harmony.
