FIR Filed Against Former Tripura Cricket Association Officials for Financial Irregularities
National Desk, 8th February: A First Information Report (FIR) has been lodged against 10 individuals, including former Tripura Cricket Association (TCA) secretary Tapas Ghosh, for alleged financial irregularities, as confirmed by a senior police officer on Thursday.
Speaking on condition of anonymity, the senior Tripura Police Officer confirmed the FIR, which also implicates former TCA vice president Timir Chanda, former treasurer Jaylal Das, and three TCA engineers – Tarun Kumar Das, Arunabha Nath, and Rahad Sarkar.
Furthermore, three executives from two Kolkata-based companies, which secured the tender for installing floodlights at MBB stadium, and a lifetime member of TCA are named in the FIR. The FIR stems from prima facie evidence of financial irregularities unearthed by a Special Investigating Team (SIT). The alleged offences pertain to the installation of floodlights at MBB stadium during the fiscal years 2022-23 and 2023-24. Initially estimated at Rs 10 crore, the financial irregularities are expected to escalate as the investigation progresses, according to the police officer.
The Crime Branch initiated the case against the accused individuals following a comprehensive investigation by a three-member SIT into the allegations.
