Fire Dept Receive 201 Calls despite Ban on Firecrackers

Guwahati: Fire Department got as many as 201 calls during Diwali despite a total ban on firecrackers in the nation’s capital, officials said on Tuesday.

Atul Garg, director of Delhi Fire Services, reported that 201 reports about fire accidents were made during Diwali yesterday.

The fire chief had declared that the department was ready to put out flames using drones that could reach tall buildings before the festival. Fire crews were stationed close to crowded places.

Meanwhile, authorities said that on Diwali night, a fire broke out inside an apartment in a residential society in Greater Noida West.

According to police officials, a fire that started in a flat in the Vedantam Society area of Gaur City 2 inside the boundaries of the Bisrakh police station prompted relief efforts at the scene.

According to Chief Fire Officer Arun Kumar Singh, efforts are being made to totally put out the fire.

“Around 10.05 pm, we learned about a fire in a Vedantam society apartment on the 17th floor of Tower B2. The 18th storey was also affected by the fire. After the arrival of fire tenders, the fire was put out in an hour ” he added.

Singh added that there have been no recorded casualties to date.

The official said that the cause of the fire and the extent of the damage were still unknown. Many fire incidents were recorded throughout as the entire country was enjoying the celebration.
