First Meeting Of Sustainable Finance Working Group Under G20 Begins In Guwahati

Guwahati: The Sustainable Finance Working Group’s inaugural meeting got underway on Thursday in Guwahati as part of India’s one-year G20 presidency.

The event is set to take place on February 2 and 3. More than 94 delegates from G20 member nations, guest nations, other international organisations, and officials from the Government of India will attend.

One Earth. One Family. One Future is the G20’s theme, and its credo is “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam.” It emphasises the idea of interdependence and uses a green transformation to advocate for a pro-life planet with a focus on people.

The meeting which was attended by Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal would discuss how to carry out the Paris Agreement’s sustainable goals, agenda, and objectives.

“This particular group is going to bring out the roadmap of how to mobilise sustainable finance for noble causes. This meeting of the first meeting of the Sustainable Finance Working Group is very important for people around the globe. Out of this two days meeting, we are going to get out of the way to achieve the sustainable goals, agenda and objectives of the Paris agreement,” he said.

The G20 Sustainable Finance Working Group works to mobilise sustainable finance in order to promote the transition to greener, more resilient, and inclusive society and economies.

Four sessions will be held over the course of the two days of the meeting to discuss the three main topics of mechanisms for timely and adequate resource mobilisation for climate finance, enabling finance for the Sustainable Development Goals, and building ecosystem capacity for financing toward sustainable development.

A yoga session and three SFWG sessions are on the first day’s schedule, according to the literature. A river cruise, “Ratri bhoj par samvaad,” and a cultural event will cap off the first day’s schedule.

The schedule for the second day includes a yoga session, three sessions for side events, the fourth SFWG session, and a dinner for delegates at the Brahmaputra Heritage Center.

Moreover, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Mission LiFE vision puts people at the centre of driving change in the fight against climate change and the realisation of the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Alongside the summit, a number of Jan Bhagidari activities are being planned, such as a cleaning campaign, a painting and slogan contest, a seminar on SDG funding, a tree-planting push, and a G20 Conclave on innovative investment for climate action.

Furthermore, the delegates went on a safari at Kaziranga National Park on Wednesday. They will also tour some of Guwahati’s well-known locations, including as the Old Governor House and Brahmaputra River Island.
